Project Update - Sep/Oct 2025
We’re well into October and I’ve just received some amazing news from Cambodia — our team has now reached a fantastic milestone of 7,000 trees growing in our nurseries!
It’s hard to believe that back in April 2025, we started this journey with a small 6m x 6m micro-nursery. It was built to show local communities how to germinate and care for young trees, grow vegetables, and make compost — a small but powerful space for learning and inspiration.
Then came Phase 2, where we set out to boost our growing capacity. Thanks to a bit of luck (and a lot of hard work), we were able to take over a larger nursery and extend it — it can now hold up to 5,000 trees, and it’s completely full!
Now we’re moving into Phase 3 (October 2025 – March 2026), and this is where things get really exciting. We’re replicating our demonstration nursery model in two schools or communities and with two families. Work has already begun, and we’ve partnered with some incredible local groups to make this happen.
Even better — our first replicated micro-nursery is already finished as part of a community project! This new nursery will grow around 500 trees, ready to be planted out in May 2026 when the rains return.
Over the past six months, our small but mighty team — Sreyrath, Ratana, and Vannak — have been doing an incredible job. They’ve brought people together, shared their knowledge, and inspired real community action. It hasn’t all been smooth sailing — the rains were unusually heavy this year, causing some flooding and delays with vegetable planting and compost collection — but the team’s spirit never wavered.
In fact, they’ve gone above and beyond their targets for tree germination, meaning we now have a wonderful stock of native trees ready to distribute in May 2026.
None of this would have been possible without your support — so from me and the team in Cambodia: thank you for helping us grow something truly special.
Stay tuned for more updates as Phase 3 takes shape — exciting times ahead!
